Viva Vigan Kannawidan: Ilocos Festival

The yearly Kannawidan Ylocos Festival of Ilocos Sur showcases the spirit of the Ilocano Child.

Watching the children from the mountainous towns of Ilocos Sur perform their ‘tribal rites’ and dances in their tribal costume called “baag”, on bare foot under the midday sun strips me of vanity and pride. And propels me to that place where everything is pure, simple and honest. This festival, celebrated on January 29 to February 5, also highlights Ilocos food, arts, trade, crafts, and products. Witnessing all this makes one realize the beauty and dignity of Ilocos culture and people. We should be proud of our Ilocano culture.

Like the beauty of the Bayanihan Dance Company show which proudly featured the Filipino culture in songs and dances, the tribal rituals and dances of the province summarizes what Kannawidan Festival is all about. The festival not only brings us takes one back to the roots; it also enables one to look into the future through art created by children. Their art speaks of their belief in the beauty of the world as gift from the Creator. Their songs and dances outshine any sadness this present world has thrown at them.

Climate Change. Be aware!

Every single person living in this world shouldn't be outdated on what is happening into the place where they live. The issue on climate change in really alarming. According to the information that i have read in the internet, the problem on ocean acidification is a big  threat to marine life. After such years, what would be the effect if all of our oceans will be like that? Here's some article for you to read. Credits to the writer.

Ocean acidification is enormous threat to marine life because it impairs the ability of marine organisms such as corals and mollusks to form their skeletons or shells, and these marine organisms play key role in enabling the proper functioning of marine food chain.

If ocean acidification continues world will soon experience huge biodiversity loss in our oceans and seas. This is because such rapid increase in acidity leaves very little time for marine species to adapt.

The natural rate of change in climate has always left enough time for many species to adapt but this is no case with man-made climate change. The researcher Tobias Friedrich at the the International Pacific Research Center, University of Hawaii explained this by saying that "when Earth started to warm 17,000 years ago, terminating the last glacial period, atmospheric CO2 levels rose from 190 parts per million (ppm) to 280 ppm over 6,000 years. Marine ecosystems had ample time to adjust. Now, for a similar rise in CO2 concentration to the present level of 392 ppm, the adjustment time is reduced to only 100 – 200 years."

The only way to stop further ocean acidification is to drastically reduce the amount of carbon emissions on global level and this can be achieved only with very strict international climate deal. Judging by the latest climate change talks new climate deal is very low on political agenda of world leaders, well behind global financial woes that seem to be taking all the attention.

New Year, New Me!

There is a saying from the Movie, Kung Fu Panda,  that i will never forget: Yesterday was a history. Tomorrow is a Mystery. But today is a gift. That's why it is called present. I can relate this into life. Well, goodbye 2011 and so with the old me. Hello 2012, welcome new me!
For this year, i really do have a lot of new year's resolution. I want to change every negative thing within me. From the character traits up to physical appearance. In other words, I wanna change for the better! I belong to the other little or small girls out there who badly wishes to gain height and weight. And because of that, i need and i should avoid to stay up late at night. Eat plenty 3 times a day. Avoid using mobile phone and the internet that much. And many more. Im already tired on jumping and jumping at exactly 12:00 am, January 1! Duh! I feel sick whenever they say that i can gain height by doing that crazy thing. Weirdo! I wanna change my hairstyle. Hang-out with friends, and enjoy every moment with them. Set aside the things which makes my mind explode. Just like other says. Live Love Laugh. :)

Promoting Digital Literacy Through English Proficiency

Digital literacy is the ability to locate, organize, understand, evaluate, and analyze information using digital technology. It involves a working knowledge of current high-technology, and an understanding of how it can be used. Digitally literate people can communicate and work more efficiently, especially with those who possess the same knowledge and skills.
Research around digital literacy is concerned with wider aspects associated with learning how to effectively find, use, summarize, evaluate, create, and communicate information while using digital technologies, not just being literate at using a computer.
Digital literacy encompasses computer hardwaresoftware (particularly those used most frequently by businesses), the Internetcell phones,PDAs, and other digital devices. A person using these skills to interact with society may be called a digital citizen.

What can you say about the theme chemergy-chemistry in science clubbing synergy?

The theme means the power of cooperation of chemistry and science in working together to produce a result not obtainable by chemistry alone or by science alone. They need each other in order to produce a certain kind of result.

My Teacher, My Hero.

My Teacher, My Hero.

Wanted: Change

Wanted: Change
The society we live in is in a great process of a rapid change. From every features of our suroundings, and so with the living things staying in it. We as humans, we are in a process of
development, transformation, conversion, shifting and so on. The changes in our physical, spiritual, social and mental aspects shows a big realization that we can never be left behind nor outdated. But, as we move forward, do we really know the real definition of CHANGE? Did we ever ask ourselves if we are changing for the BETTER?
As Heraclitus, a greek philosopher said, “Everything flows and nothing stays.” Yes, i do believe in it, for as days continue to pass by, every single thing around as will never stay the way it is. We choose to change for we feel convinient with it and because of that convinience, sometimes we forget the negative effect or the consequences that may happen if we continue conducting it though. Just like what Susan Sontag voiced out, “The felt unreliability of human experience brought about by the inhuman acceleration of historical change has led every sensitive modern mind to the recording of some kind of nausea, of intellectual vertigo.” I know that you can analyze this quotation within yourself.
The only thing that i can do hold on to is that, we should beware of newly introduced matters, for every newly introduced matter is an innovation, and every innovation is a going astray, and every straying is in the Fire. We should always think first that if it is not necessary to change, then why change still?
